I just hooked up this TV, and its stunning right out of the box! The
Nano Crystals really make a difference on the colors. The new OS is easy
to navigate and use. I considered both the JS9000 & 9500 but I'm
not a fan of curved TV's. I did way to many hours of research leaning
towards discounted 2014 models as I'm basically done paying extra for
being an early adopter of new technology. In the end I just couldn't
pull the trigger on settling for what my eyes perceived to be an
inferior picture to the JS8500. I needed a TV now and am willing to
watch the price drop in the coming year. If your considering this TV my
recommendation is go for it!
I'll update this review after I get more time using this TV. I've attached a photo of a youtube 4k video taken with my samsung S5 phone.

I got my new UN65JS8500
last Tuesday after I accidentaly broke my XBR55X850A, well accidents
happens. Anyway, Samsung's new screen panels are called SUHD. Samsung
claims that these 10-bit panels can produce 64x times more accurate
color and sharper resolution thanks to the Nano Crystal color display
compare to current 8-bit UHD panels from other brands. Also these sets
are capable of High Dynamic Range (Peak Illuminator PRO) so when HDR
content becomes available you will be able to see more striking detail
in darkest areas of a picture, brighter whites and wider color accuracy
thanks to DCI P3 color space. Now the new TIZEN OS is good but not
great, even that this set has a quad core processor sometimes you will
experience some hiccups and a bit of lag, this is an area were Sony was
wise to stick with Android OS. But I guess this is something that can be
fix by future firmware updates. The remote control on the other hand
left to much to be desire it's hard to get use to a remote with out
numerics keys for quick channel surf, it's like playing with a Wii
controller but with out the fun factor. The remote has a sensor that
activates the back lit only in a complete dark room, you don't have the
option to turn it "on" or "off" at your desire. The JS8500 includes the
One Connect Mini as oppose to the 9000 series which include the One
Connect Box with more input options and future proof of the hardware.
Also this set has a LED Edge-Lit backlight display as his more expensive
brother the JS9000, only the JS9500 has a Full Arrange Local Dimming
capabilities that will have superior HDR performance. However the JS8500
will do a good job handling HDR but with few limitations because of the
display technology. And last but not least is the obvious, is not
"curved" but Samsung was extremely wise to keep the flat version only to
the US market, but all of the other great features from the 9000 series
are present.
Now picture performance is another story, this is the “closest" thing to OLED, and that’s what Samsung is trying to achieve with the Nano Crystal Color which is Samsung’s version of Quad Dot technology. Once you properly calibrate your set be ready to be amazed. I watched The Dark Knight, Pacific Rim and Transformers 4: Age of Extinction, three of my favorite "Reference" movies on Blu Ray. The amount of detail, color and the deepest blacks are some of the best I have ever seen on a LED display. Sharpness controls are tight and for those who rarely love 240hz Motion Rate this set is almost halo-free. Luckily apps like Netflix & YouTube (just to name a few) have true 4K content and thanks to the latest HEVC (H.265) codecs the JS8500 is capable to blow your iris with super sharp streaming picture. Also Samsung’s new SUHD panels video inputs support HDMI 2.0 & HDCP 2.2 protocol meaning that it will be ready for the next generation of 4K Blu Ray players that are coming in Fall 2015. The sound from this TV set is very good, at least you can get clear dialogue and crisp sound from such a narrow frame, but for those who like it LOUD! is always better with a soundbar or AV receiver. (Updated 5/23/15) 3D performance: I own a couple of 3D movies so what better movie to test this SUHD TV than Transformers 4: Age of Extinction, 90% of this 3D version is presented in IMAX. The field of depth is truly immersive and I'm glad to say that the JS8500 handle the 3D effects beautifully, ghost and halo effects are almost non existence, colors were vivid and picture was sharp as blade.
I can safely say that the JS8500 is the best 2015 (Flat) LED 4K TV out there. Even with minor drawbacks like the remote control, speaker sound and sometimes buggy OS, Samsung once again has delivered a new breed of LED technology in such of completed and beatiful package. (Updated 6/28/2015) Samsung has just realease firmware update 1218, so far the TIZEN OS looks and feels more stable also apps seems to faster and more responsive.

I purchased this TV about 2 weeks ago and I can't say enough good
things about it. The picture is so clear that it makes you wonder how
you lived with 1080p beforehand. But I will warn you it takes some time
of working through all of its features before you get this picture. Out
of the box it looks good but give yourself an hour or so and you will
not believe the difference.
If you have a Xbox One or PS4 you will see a drastic difference as well. I play Destiny on Xbox One and it looks amazing. One thing you will have to do with FPS or action games is switch over to game mode every time. Without this switch you will notice a substantial lag that will make for a not so pleasant gaming experience. Once you switch over to game mode though it looks amazing. The vivid picture does change a little bit but im sure it is to account for the refresh speeds.
I did an awful lot of research before buying a TV in this price range and through all my reading I saw that Hight Dynamic Range (HDR) was extremely important to future proof your investment and this TV has it. The other model I looked very closely at was the new Sony model in the same 55 inch set. Both had amazing picture but the HDR coupled with the slightly better picture in my opinion I chose this model.
I know many people say there isn't much 4K content out right now and that is fairly true. But I have watched a fair number or blu rays the past two weeks and they look stunning. I turned on the UHD upscale and it creates a far better picture than my prior 50 inch LED 1080p TV. One that was particularly amazing was Lucy. The colors are so vibrant its hard to look away.
I hope this helps people looking at this TV and I am happy to answer any questions you might have as it is a big investment for most and the technology can sometimes feel intimidating to some.

I normally look to upgrade
every 2-3 years and this process is usually a very simple one - checkout
the offerings from Sony & Samsung and select the best option. But
the plan this time was even simpler - look for a great deal on a 2014
H7150/H8000 because the benefits of 4k are largely negated on the size I
needed (46-50"), and there are no "high-end" 1080P sets for 2015 in
that size. But other advances in technology, both those that are here
and those that are arriving soon (hopefully) made this process much more
involved and a bit befuddling at times.
I'm still not all that sold on 4k but the best picture quality technologies are only available on 4k sets so you have to take a close look at what's available in this space. And while 10-bit panels, wider color gamuts, nano-crystals/Triluminous displays, etc. are nice features, none of them would have changed my original plan for a 2014 1080P set. What did was HDR because I believe that could be a game changer.
It also narrowed the search down to two Samsung models, the JS8500 or JS9000, and I don't think you can go wrong with either one. The 9000 is curved and has better sound but neither of those was a concern for me. But it also has the full OCB for better future upgradeability so that was worth considering. But you can't upgrade the panel, so I would rather use the $500 difference in price along with the future evolution kit upgrade ($400+) and whatever you can sell the JS8500 for and put that towards a new TV when the time comes.
Anyway, it's only been a few days but so far I am extremely happy with the JS8500. Setup was a breeze and the picture quality ranges from great to pick-your-own-superlative. Color depth and clarity is excellent and I haven't noticed any motion lag. Netflix/Amazon look much, much better. 4k streamed looks better yet although not by much. But 4k with HDR might leave you speechless (as would 1080P w/HDR) and quickly became my gf's favorite feature (evil witch!)
Now there are a few channels that looked better on my old TV (Samsung F6300) but they don't look that great to begin with so be prepared for a few sources that will disappoint.
The sound is more than adequate for my needs and first impressions of Tizen are very positive. I'm getting used to the remote but it is on the small side and won't be suitable for some folks. But any of these can be easily upgraded and are not rating factors for me.
Now I'd like to mention a few setup/installation items that might save some folks a little aggravation and maybe result in more accurate reviews.
First, I did experience one issue with this set which was some flickering/flashlighting on the bottom of the screen that was very noticeable when watching movies in letterbox format. But sometimes this is caused by the screws being over-tightened during the mfg. process, so I loosened the 4 bottom screws by about a 1/4 turn (one needed more) and the problem has not returned. Something to try before returning it.
Second, if you have satellite like I do (DirecTV) you should test your signal strength to make sure you don't have any issues because this can greatly impact picture quality on any set. This is easily done under the Settings menu with DTV. You also want to make sure the cable/satellite box is configured to allow the TV to do ALL the upscaling/processing. With DTV this means Resolutions should all be checked with Native set to "ON" and screen format set to "original format".
I would also recommend turning off all of the following on the TV, at least initially - Instant On/ECO settings/Smart Security/Anti-virus. These can cause various problems with streaming, shutoffs, etc. so try these individually after you have everything else setup/dialed in.
Lastly, this might just be my imagination or another in a long line of senior moments, but the picture quality seemed to improve noticeably after the set had about 18-20 hours on it. I know they say you shouldn't professionally calibrate it until after 100 hours so maybe this is related.
I also need to give a couple major kudos to Amazon. First, they double boxed the shipment which is a service that some places charge $30-75 for and others don't even offer. And second, they took care of me when Samsung not only extended the original sale past 6/13, but then included a free soundbar or 24" TV with every purchase.
Update 6/22 - Still enjoying the new TV and decided to have the set calibrated. I find this service to be a bit over-priced especially since I could easily do it myself if I had access to the right equipment, but in the end you get a better picture - not a night and day difference - but worth it in terms of color accuracy and detail.
I'm still not all that sold on 4k but the best picture quality technologies are only available on 4k sets so you have to take a close look at what's available in this space. But sometimes this is caused by the screws being over-tightened during the mfg. process, so I loosened the 4 bottom screws by about a 1/4 turn (one needed more) and the problem has not returned. Something to try before returning it.
Second, if you have satellite like I do (DirecTV) you should test your signal strength to make sure you don't have any issues because this can greatly impact picture quality on any set. This is easily done under the Settings menu with DTV. You also want to make sure the cable/satellite box is configured to allow the TV to do ALL the upscaling/processing. With DTV this means Resolutions should all be checked with Native set to "ON" and screen format set to "original format".
I would also recommend turning off all of the following on the TV, at least initially - Instant On/ECO settings/Smart Security/Anti-virus. These can cause various problems with streaming, shutoffs, etc. so try these individually after you have everything else setup/dialed in.
Lastly, this might just be my imagination or another in a long line of senior moments, but the picture quality seemed to improve noticeably after the set had about 18-20 hours on it. I know they say you shouldn't professionally calibrate it until after 100 hours so maybe this is related.
I also need to give a couple major kudos to Amazon. First, they double boxed the shipment which is a service that some places charge $30-75 for and others don't even offer. And second, they took care of me when Samsung not only extended the original sale past 6/13, but then included a free soundbar or 24" TV with every purchase.
Update 6/22 - Still enjoying the new TV and decided to have the set calibrated. I find this service to be a bit over-priced especially since I could easily do it myself if I had access to the right equipment, but in the end you get a better picture - not a night and day difference - but worth it in terms of color accuracy and detail.
